Pets abandoned during holiday season

Intro: OVER 40 pets have been brought to the Port Lincoln RSPCA animal shelter in the past week, bringing the number up to 80 for December so far. The RSPCA is urging anyone considering getting a pet as a Christmas present this year to buy one from the shelter. Manager Narelle Biddell said the shelter took in 162 surrendered and lost animals in November and December, an increase on last year's 134 in the same period, its busiest time of the year as families surrender their pets before going away.

Cat Feared Stolen Found On Ferry To Spain

Intro: A cat thought to have been stolen in Hampshire has turned up on a ferry heading for Spain. Sandi was found on the car deck of the ferry by Dave Smith. Sandi, a ginger tom, was reported missing by his owners Tim and Patricia Austin, of Lee-on-the-Solent. After a desperate search the couple feared they would never see their cat again until he turned up on a ferry to Bilbao, Spain. It is believed Sandi had been stolen and was escaping his thieves when he was spotted in the car deck of a P&O ferry preparing to dock in the northern Spanish port yesterday.
